At the Blue Lagoon

  • Brimketill – a small, naturally carved pool by marine erosion, at the lava shore edge;

Over the year

The hottest months are July and August, when max temperature is about 55.4 – 57.2 F / 13-14℃. Usually, third week is the hottest. Also, be aware of rain and fog.

The coldest months are December and January. Temperature fluctuates around 33.8 F / 1℃. Also, be prepared for rain, snow, hail and fog all around the Blue Lagoon

Location

Blue Lagoon is located at 3 miles, 4.8 km from Grindavik, a fishing town on the Reykjanes, the Southern Peninsula of Island.
It’s in the heart of the UNESCO Geopark Reykjanes. This is an intensely active volcanic area. Therefore, is home to an immense amount of volcanoes, calderas and craters. And, also the earthquakes are common.

How to get there

By plane:

The Blue Lagoon is located at a 20 minutes drive from the Keflavík Airport and at a 50 minutes drive from the Reykjavík Airport.
This is why it is indicated to add the Blue Lagoon to the journey between those two places.

By car:

From the Highway that connects Keflavík to Reykjavík, take the Highway 41 to Highway 43 and follow the signs to Blue Lagoon.

By bus:

From both of the airports are organized transfers that include stops to The Blue Lagoon and also to the hotels.

Useful information

Flying in from Europe - visit the Blue Lagoon on the way from the airport, because usually will arrive a little later in the morning but the return flight it will probably be early in the morning.
Flying in from North America or other long-haul flights - visit the Blue Lagoon on the way TO the airport, most of all because at the arrival you will have an overnight flight and get there super early in the morning local time. So, it may be more difficult to enjoy the day.
Water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 99–102 °F or 37–39 °C.
Need to book your entry days or even weeks in advance.
It is essential that people enter it completely clean in the lagoon because it doesn’t have any chlorine in it.
Parking is free.
